Self-awareness is the basis of each component of emotional intelligence. It refers to the capacity of persons to be aware of how they are feeling. Without recognizing what you are feeling, you cannot proceed to the next competencies.
Self-awareness involves three skills: Emotional self-awareness, accurate self-assessment and self-confidence. By having a firm grasp on these three skills or rather your emotions and an understanding of how they manifest, you can feel more self-assured and in control, which of course will be a boost to your self-confidence. Here are several suggestions for helping to increase your self-awareness.
Identify your emotions
To begin to identify your emotions, you’ll need to make time for doing so. At first, you will do this at regularly scheduled times in order to get in the habit of flexing your ‘identifying’ muscle.

The global situation we face means that literally everything has changed in the last few years. Change is the only constant, and businesses who have fallen by the wayside lay as epitaphs to the inability of many organisations to recognise how they have to adapt to the real world of today and the future. This article is written by the author of the free eBook
The sales profession is no different. If you are still using techniques that were designed, developed or conceived more than five years ago, then prepare for some sobering news; the buyer who bought from you when you used those tactics five years ago doesn’t exist anymore!
The modern sales professional needs to be aware of how today’s changes are affecting the way their buyers buy. If you’re not ahead of the game when it comes to how technology is driving the sales processes of the future, you’ll be floundering on the beach of poverty, scraping a living from the fossils of yesterday’s crumbs from so-called loyal customers.
So, what are the sales skills you need to thrive, not just today, but long into the future?
1)   Know the world your customer is living in
Yes, you need to be an expert in your product and services and the benefits they bring to your customers and prospects. But that’s the baseline, the minimum you need to know.

Our first reaction to most of the statements which we hear from other people is an immediate evaluation or judgement, rather than an understanding of it. ‘That’s right’, or ‘That’s stupid’, or ‘That’s unreasonable’, or ‘That’s correct’. Very rarely do we permit ourselves to understand precisely what the meaning of his statement is to him.” – Carl Rogers, On Becoming a Person
Empathy is paying full attention to what is going on in someone else’s mind.  The difficulty we all have with this is that we are usually distracted by what is going on in our own mind.  To pay attention to someone else we must first find a way to flick the switch – to divert our attention from the noise in our own minds, to give ourselves permission to set aside for a while our own sensations, memories, opinions, prejudices, thoughts and feelings, so that we can tune in to what is going on in their mind. This article is based on the free eBook
If you want to train yourself to pay more generous attention to others, how can you do it?  Below you can find some frequently asked questions about how to listen and talk to someone with empathy. Take a look!

1.   What attitude do I need to have to listen to someone with empathy?
Empathy is generous and patient. It suspends critical judgment and looks for the best in people. It values them even knowing their failings. It looks for a favourable interpretation of what they say and do, one they would feel proud to admit to, rather than a negative one.

Could you spend less time at work?
How many on their death bed are heard to whisper, ‘I wish I’d spent more time at work’?! So, ask yourself: Could you spend less time at work, at least on certain days of the week? If you have to take work home, try excluding certain days of the week.
